slash in prose

The slash between words in a sentence.

Do not use a slash to glue words together in running prose: not and/or, he/she, or writer/editor. Write or, and, or name both. The slash is fine in dates, fractions, and paths.

Examples

Use Call the writer or the editor.

Avoid Call the writer/editor.
