phrasal verbs
A verb plus a particle, and whether the object can sit between them.
A phrasal verb is a verb plus a particle: give up, look up, put off. If the phrasal verb is separable, the object may sit between the parts: look the word up or look up the word. A pronoun object sits between them: look it up, not look up it. If the phrasal verb is inseparable, keep the parts together: look after the child, not look the child after.
