hopefully
The sentence adverb meaning “I hope.”
Hopefully as a sentence adverb is standard: Hopefully, the lock will hold. The older objection—that hopefully may only mean “in a hopeful manner”—is outdated. She waited hopefully is still the manner sense. Both uses are good English.
