god / God
The lowercase common noun versus the name.
Capitalize God as the name of the deity in monotheistic use: God willing. Lowercase god for a deity in general, or for a god among others: a Greek god. Keep the lowercase in thank god only if you mean the common noun; most writers capitalize the name.
