envy / jealousy
Wanting what another has versus fearing a rival.
Envy is wanting another person’s thing, place, or quality. Jealousy is fear of a rival, or fear of losing what you have. You envy a neighbor’s quiet. You are jealous when you fear someone will take your place. Keep the split.
