double negative

Two negatives in one clause.

In standard English, two negatives in one clause cancel or collapse: do not use I don’t want none. Use I don’t want any or I want none. Litotes is a different figure: I don’t disagree means you agree, mildly. That is not the same as I don’t want none.

Examples

Use I don’t want any.

Avoid I don’t want none.
