comparative and superlative forms

Short adjectives take -er and -est: fine, finer, finest. Longer adjectives take more and most: careful, more careful, most careful. Do not stack the two systems: not more finer, not most finest. Some adjectives do not compare: unique, perfect, dead. See also absolute adjectives.
