any more / anymore
Additional quantity versus “any longer.”
Write any more as two words when you mean additional amount: I don’t want any more coffee. Write anymore as one word for the time sense “any longer,” and use that form in negatives and questions: She doesn’t live here anymore. Do not use anymore in a positive statement in standard English: not The trains are late anymore.
Examples
UseDo we have any more chairs?
UseHe doesn’t smoke anymore.
AvoidHe doesn’t smoke any more. (If you mean “any longer,” not “any additional smoking.”)
AvoidThe buses run late anymore.
Positive anymore (“That’s expensive anymore”) is regional. It is not standard English.
