advance planning
Redundant advance before planning.
Planning takes place before an event by definition, so advance adds nothing in most sentences, and the same is true of preplanning. Use advance planning only when the sentence contrasts early planning with last-minute arrangements.
Examples
Use The move requires careful planning. (planning takes place beforehand by definition)
Use The event succeeded because of advance planning, not last-minute arrangements. (the sentence contrasts early planning with late work)
Avoid The move requires careful advance planning. (advance repeats what planning already means)
