accede / exceed

Two verbs that share a sound and not a meaning.

To accede is to agree, consent, or succeed to an office or claim: accede to the request, accede to the throne. To exceed is to go beyond a limit: exceed the speed limit, exceed expectations. Use accede with to. Do not use exceed when you mean “say yes.”
